The staff will be reading "Millions of Cats" to the young ones in honor the 3rd Annual Louisiana Week for the Animals.
Millions of Cats is a picture book written and illustrated by Wanda Gág in 1928. The book won a Newbery Honor award in 1929, one of the few picture books to do so. Millions of Cats is the oldest American picture book still in print.[1]
The hand-lettered text tells the story of an elderly couple who realize that they are very lonely. The wife wants a cat to love, so her husband sets off in search of a beautiful one to bring home to her. After traveling far away from home, he finds a hillside covered in "...hundreds of cats, thousands of cats, millions and billions and trillions of cats..." This rhythmic phrase is repeated several other times throughout the story. Read more the amazing book at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Millions_of_Cats

Peveto Woods Bird & Butterfly Sanctuary
Lake Charles region
Cameron Parish, Louisiana 70631
Louisiana lies in the very center of the transcontinental Gulf of Mexico migration path. A greater number of migratory songbirds probably pass over the Cameron Parish coast than anywhere else.
The Baton Rouge Audubon Society has preserved this unique habitat and established the first chenier sanctuary for migratory birds. The first Louisiana settlers called these coastal woods "cheniers" which means oak place. Cheniers are ancient beach ridges formed by wave action, offshore currents, and the influence of the Mississippi River.
This 41-acre island of chenier woodland is a favorite spot of birders, especially in the spring, because as many as two million birds utilize these sanctuaries each year. Birders flock here to catch a glimpse of the beautifully plumed spring warblers, tanagers, orioles and the like. Among most sought after are the Scarlet Tanager, Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Cerulean Warbler, and Cape May Warbler. Several first Louisiana state records of western vagrants have been obtained here, including Townsend's Warbler, Hepatic Tanager, and Hooded Oriole.

Yelp Baton Rouge Adoption Day
Smooch My Pooch
20377 Old Scenic, Ste. 105
Zachary, LA 70791
YelpBR is a project of Commercial Properties Realty Trust, a company with many who adore their dogs. Like Art Fesmire, a troubleshooter of properties who couldn't say no to providing care for a wayward dog until a permanent home could be found. One was; the dog is now part of Art's family.
Upon realizing that so many Baton Rouge dogs needed a home, the staff of Commercial Properties launched YelpBR to start adoption days in fall 2009. Look for the number of adoption days to grow as YelpBR gets its footing and has the volunteers to secure homes for hundreds of dogs.
